Volunteer Expo 2023

intouch Magazine

Volunteering can help you make friends, learn new skills, advance your career, and even feel happier and healthier. Learn how to find the right volunteer opportunity for you at our upcoming Volunteer Expo on Wednesday 1 November at Carrington Bowling Club, Carrington.

Volunteers substantially benefit the communities through providing important services to others. Volunteers may also bring new insights to the organisations or groups for which they volunteer, increase efficiencies and improve effectiveness.

Volunteering broadens people’s networks and professional skills, and serves as an indicator of wellbeing and social cohesion. It also has links to the economic and health status of a nation. By volunteering, people can become more outwardly focused, which may strengthen social interactions or even reduce anxiety (Department of Health 2019).

We support all people to connect and contribute through volunteering. We encourage people of different ages, people with disability and people from diverse cultural backgrounds to get active through volunteering.

Volunteers with diverse backgrounds amplify community impact. Moreover, volunteering is a crucial route to employment, enhancing confidence, honing skills, and widening networks.

When looking for a volunteer position that’s right for you, look for something that matches your personality, skills, and interests. Ask yourself if there is something specific you want to do or achieve as a volunteer.

Don't limit yourself to just one organization or one specific type of job. That is why a Volunteer Expo is a perfect way to find out what organisations are out there and what roles they have and discuss these with them on the day. Sometimes an opportunity looks great on paper, but the reality is quite different.

Volunteering doesn't have to take over your life to be beneficial. In fact, research shows that just two to three hours per week, or about 100 hours a year, can confer the most benefits—to both you and your chosen cause. Volunteering should feel like a fun and rewarding hobby, not another chore on your to-do list.

“The Volunteer Expo is a sensational opportunity for not-for-profit organisations to showcase the amazing work they do for our community."

Organisations will have the chance to talk to individuals about their programs and register their interest in volunteering roles.

Likewise, it is also a perfect opportunity for individuals to engage with volunteer-involving organisations and find out about volunteering opportunities in the Newcastle community while enjoying great food and music.

It is a FREE event, everyone is welcome! Visitors do not need a ticket or registration.

Date – Wednesday 1 November, 2023

Time – 10 am – 3 pm

Location – Carrington Bowling Club, 1C Cowper Street, Carrington
