Newcastle-based arts organisations, The Very Popular Theatre Company and the National College of Dance (NCD) announce their upcoming collaborative production of the iconic stage show, Billy Elliot which has captivated audiences around the world since 2005.

Producer, Daniel Stoddart said "This is a very exciting opportunity and we are so proud to be collaborating with another Hunter based arts organisation to ensure the highest quality entertainment continues to be created right here in our region.

“Billy Elliot is known for its mind-blowing dance sequences and the fact that our young cast members will get to work with Brett Morgan, Jake Burden and the team at NCD is incredible”.

The team at NCD will work closely with the lead performers who will be playing the characters of Billy and Michael in the areas of ballet, tap and acrobatics.

An amazing opportunity for local performers to showcase the incredible talent that lies within the Hunter, National College of Dance’s Artistic Director, Brett Morgan said “Newcastle is so fortunate to have Daniel and his team bring the internationally acclaimed show Billy Elliot to our region.

“NCD are thrilled to collaborate with Daniel and The Very Popular Theatre Company on the production of Billy Elliot, and don’t doubt it will be the talk of 2023”.

To be performed at the Civic Theatre Newcastle in October 2023, the organisations are on the hunt for their Billy Elliot, along with all other characters including Michael, Debbie, Mrs Wilkinson, Billy’s dad, Billy's brother and the entire ensemble.

A diverse and vibrant cast of performers of all ethnicities and gender are encouraged to apply for any roles. No roles in this production have been precast.
