**CANCELLED** One of the Hunter’s most treasured annual events is coming back to King Edward Park this Saturday, with Newcastle Permanent rolling out the red carpet for a special Cinema Under the Stars.

After two years of COVID-enforced hibernation, the film-fan favourite returns with the feelgood animation Sing 2 (PG) – which is sure to have everyone getting into the groove.

Kicking off at 5pm, the jam-packed evening of family-friendly entertainment will also include live music, free children’s activities, roving acts and free popcorn, with the feature film beginning at sundown.

There will also be food options – serving everything from snacks all the way up to hearty dinner options – available from local vendors at the venue.

Newcastle Permanent CEO Bernadette Inglis said after two years of COVID calling “cut” on the event, the customer-owned organisation was looking forward to instead be saying “lights, camera, action!”

“Cinema Under the Stars is always so well received by the community, with thousands of people of all ages coming along to enjoy a night of fun and laughter – and popcorn, of course,” said Ms Inglis.

“After two years feeling disconnected from each other, this is the perfect opportunity to share an experience with our friends, family and neighbours in the open air of King Edward Park, one of Newcastle’s most beautiful locations. With its natural amphitheatre, it’s made for movies.

“Bring along your rug and a picnic, and don’t be shy about joining in with some of the great songs in Sing 2!

“As a customer-owned organisation, it’s wonderful to again be hosting Cinema Under the Stars for our community. While this is a special one-off spring event, stay tuned for the summer schedule – coming soon!”

• Venue: King Edward Park

• Date: October 22

• Time: 5pm start, with the film to begin at sundown!

• Free shuttle bus service: to run between the Bar Beach Carpark and King Edward Park, and between Bolton St Carpark and King Edward Park from 4.00pm –11.59pm. The drop off and pick up point will be along The Terrace next to the park.
