Salt Property | Revolutionising the Newcastle Real Estate Scene

salt

Lyndall Allan started her own Newcastle real estate agency in January of 2022. Just one year later, she broke the city’s record for the highest-selling property price in the region with $11,050,000 for a home on Berner Street Merewether.

This year she was nominated for the Australian Small Business Awards for Real Estate Agency of the Year nationally. This extraordinary trajectory is born from Lyndall’s signature passion, tenacity, empathy and authenticity.

Lyndall grew up in Western Sydney and, at 19, took a job with a local real estate agency where she was thrown into the deep end of real estate sales to sink or swim.

“They threw a Yellow Pages directory on my desk on my first day and told me to find listings,” said Lyndall.

“So, I did. I was happy to put the work in and confident enough to give it a go. I seem to have a natural talent for it - an ability to communicate with anyone."

Lyndall went on to work for a further 25 years in real estate sales in what was a male dominated industry. Just over two years ago, she decided to go out on her own.

“It was my turn to do it my way. My kids were older, and I wanted to work for myself. I wasn’t sure people would want to work with me without the big company brand behind me, but I was shocked by the level of support Newcastle gave me.

“One month into the business, I realised I would need help – support staff. Mel Lancaster was my first employee and is still with me now. She’s been a big part of our transformation. In the last 2 years, we’ve gone from three employees to 13. It’s been unexpectedly fast. We went from the front room of my house to a purpose-built granny flat, and then we moved to 200 Glebe Road, a two-storey office space in Merewether. It’s been insane.”

The obvious point of difference with Salt Property is the fact that they are an all-female team.

"I’m really grateful to my girly gang – I love my team."

“A lot of the team are working mums, and they have that natural ability to be well organised because they have to be. They tend to be great communicators and are very nurturing through the sales process. It’s a personal experience.

“In a difficult market such as the one we’re in now, presenting and showcasing a home is all important. We’ll fluff the pillows and light the candles. We put effort into getting our open homes right. We don’t just put lollies and chocolates out for children; we also run treasure hunts because we know what it’s like to try to view a home when your kids are underfoot. Little things mean a lot.

“We put a lot of time and effort into how we market a property. Our sales team attend the professional photography sessions personally to make sure we are maximising every shot. We’ve leaned into social media and have a strong presence there. It’s authentic and raw, and people love it. We even post our blooper reels.”

The sales team all have their own areas of speciality, and the reach extends to the Hunter Valley, Lake Macquarie and Newcastle. Breaking the city records for the highest sales price has pushed the brand into the luxury market, which will soon extend to property management. Salt Property PM will launch this month, focusing on providing a premium service. Salt Property is good at what they do, and the results speak for themselves!
