Relish in the Magic of Cinderella

intouch Magazine

The Cinderella fairytale has captivated children worldwide for decades. Now, St Philip's Christian College Senior School (SPCC) will present this enchanting production live at the Civic Theatre from 24 June until 1 July.

Inspired by the acclaimed 1997 Teleplay starring Brandy and Whitney Houston, this magical fairytale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance.

Featuring a cast of 65 students across grades 9-12, the SPCC Senior School musical is held every second year. It has become a firm favourite on the Civic Theatre’s calendar, and for good reason, as each musical attracts over 6000 people and requires a larger audience capacity than the college theatre offers.

SPCC Director of Performing Arts, Michael Cooper says these big productions have two-fold benefits.

“Holding shows at the beautiful Civic Theatre provides an incredible opportunity for our performers and student technicians to work in a world-class venue alongside industry professionals,” says Michael.

“It also enables us to provide quality musical theatre at an affordable cost for both public audiences and also school groups who can come and enjoy seeing a full-length show.”

Michael says he has personally wanted to produce Cinderella for approximately 20 years, so staging this magical production is a dream come true for him.

“I also hope this will be a magical dream for our audiences,” says Michael.

“Staging the magic of Cinderella right here in Newcastle is no small feat with many special effects and a unique fusion of physical and digital scenery. We have ensured our production includes all the well-known Cinderella moments with the Prince giving a ball and a lost glass slipper, but have strategically enhanced much of the drama with comedy to ensure our audiences of all ages will have a rollicking good time.”

With BIG production, a sumptuous live orchestra and a story we have all come to know and love, this SPCC Senior School full-length musical will leave you believing that impossible things can happen every day. For tickets, visit www.civictheatrenewcastle.com.au/what-s-on/all-shows/cinderella.
