Record-Breaking CONDA Nominations Announced
Celebrating its 45th year and milestone as Australia's longest continually running theatre awards program, the City of Newcastle Drama Awards (CONDAs) proudly unveils a staggering 186 nominations for the 2023 season, setting a new record in the program's rich history. The nominations, which span across 27 award categories, were judged from the 65 theatrical productions staged locally this year.
One of the key elements that has contributed to the longevity and success of the CONDAs is the steadfast support from Out of the Square Media (OOTS), who are celebrating their remarkable ten-year sponsorship milestone. In an era where securing sponsorship for the arts is a formidable challenge, OOTS stands as a leader within the business community, demonstrating their dedication to nurturing the arts.
"The City of Newcastle Drama Awards has been a remarkable platform for recognising and celebrating the immense talent within our city for the past 45 years,” said Managing Director of Out of the Square, Marty Adnum.
“We are honoured to have been a part of this journey for the past ten years and look forward to continuing our support for the arts in Newcastle.”.
The commitment from OOTS has enabled the CONDAs to fulfill its mission of providing symbolic recognition to the theatre makers who contribute significantly to the city's vibrant arts scene.
"We are immensely grateful for their partnership over the past decade,” said CONDA President, Dr Shane Bransdon.
“The record-breaking number of nominations this year is a testament to the flourishing theatre scene in Newcastle, and we are excited to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our theatre makers.".
Winners of the CONDA awards will be announced at a ceremony on the evening of Saturday 9 December at Newcastle City Hall. Anyone interested in the local theatre industry is invited to purchase tickets through the Civic Theatre.
