Pass the Vodka! | An Exploration of Human Folly and Greed
The Government Inspector is a hilarious play about local government in a provincial town.
A mayor and his cronies mistake a traveller for an inspector who has come to investigate them. Fearing exile to Siberia, they lavish him with bribes and fawning attention, which the man, a penniless opportunist, happily accepts. Mayhem ensues!
Ukrainian playwright Nikolai Gogol has created characters as familiar today as in 1836 when the play was first published. His exploration of human folly, greed and pretension is timeless – and very funny!
This production is dedicated to late NTC stalwart Noel Grivas, whose mother, June Goss, provided this modern translation – it’s the first-ever presentation on stage.
Directed by Adelle Richards with the assistance of John McFadden, the large cast includes Rory Pollock, Brian Randall, Leanne Guihot-Balcombe and Jamie Lewis.
Performances are at 8pm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 2pm on Sunday, 14 May and Saturday, 20 May.
