Why not volunteer for the 2024 Newcastle Writers Festival?
Newcastle Writers Festival could not happen without the dedicated team of 160 volunteers who generously give their time each year to assist our audience and guests.
In 2024, we are welcoming return volunteers and new faces to help stage this year’s Newcastle Writers Festival from April 5 to 7. There are several roles to choose from, and orientation sessions will be held online and in person before the festival.
Volunteer registration is now open for the 2024 festival. We’ve been very fortunate to have wonderful volunteers since the inaugural festival in 2013, and every year we welcome both reliable returnees and new faces.
Our general goal for all volunteers is to help our audience and guest writers have a wonderful festival experience. We want to keep building on the reputation we’ve earned for being a friendly, relaxed and hospitable festival.
You can do one shift or as many as you like. You nominate the times you’re available and the types of roles you’d be happy to undertake.
The roles we generally roster are:
Session usher Information table
Roving assistant Book signing area
Survey Team Accessibility assistant
Set up/pack down Floater/gofer
Volunteer room aide Green Room aide
We ask that all new volunteers and returning volunteers attend an in-person or online orientation session prior to the festival. This will enable you to meet our new Volunteer Coordinator, Louise Mackay, and receive updated information about this year’s event.
