Variety - the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT is calling on Novocastrians to dust off their lycra and get on their bike as the 8th annual Variety Spin 4 Kids event cycles into action at the Newcastle Jockey Club on Friday 15 March.

Individuals or teams of up to 10 members are encouraged to register for the five-hour spin bike challenge that’s all about fun, fitness and raising funds for children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.

Variety NSW/ACT CEO Tony Warner urged Newcastle residents, as well as small and big local businesses, to gather their friends and employees and get pedalling to support kids in need.

“We know there is an incredible sense of community spirit here in Newcastle as we’ve seen it time and again through the fundraising events we’ve run and the grants we’ve offered to local families and community organisations over many years,” he said.

“With the rising cost of living, it’s never been tougher for many families experiencing financial hardship or for those living with chronic illness so once again, we are calling on the Newcastle community to show up, get spinning and support our vital work.”

Aaron Johansen, CEO of Presenting Partner, Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG), has announced a Dollar Match Day with the organisation matching every dollar donated to the event tomorrow, Tuesday 5 March.

“At NCIG, we’re passionate about providing meaningful and genuine support to our region. This is our 10th consecutive year supporting Variety and we wanted to really celebrate this milestone, and what better way than a dollar match incentive,” he said.

“We’re proud of this long-standing partnership and are looking forward to getting back on the bike on the 15th to challenge for that elusive first place standing.”

The Spin 4 Kids event will reward those who nail their kilometres and their fundraising efforts with prizes the best dressed team and individual, best team spirit and the coveted Kings and Queen of Spin.
