Member for Shortland, Pat Conroy today opened the new multipurpose space at Alesco Senior College - Charlestown Campus which will improve student educational outcomes.

Minister Conroy said work on the development project was delivered with support of Australian Government funding of $450,000 through the Capital Grants Program.

“A lot of work has gone into this project which has delivered general learning areas and a flexible general learning area with operable walls to provide a multipurpose hall,” Minister Conroy said.

“These new facilities will provide school staff, teachers and students at Alesco Senior College - Charlestown Campus with better, more modern spaces in which to work, teach and learn.

“I am very familiar with Alesco Senior College – Charlestown Campus’ educational program and have heard directly from students about how much it has helped them.

“The school provides a safe learning environment and tailors programs to meet its students’ individual educational, social, and emotional needs, which is so important for those not suited to the traditional schooling model.

“The Australian Government is committed to providing all schools with appropriate funding so that all students, including those at Alesco Senior College - Charlestown Campus, get the best possible education.”

Minister Conroy said the new facilities would benefit the students currently at Alesco Senior College - Charlestown Campus, as well as the many students who will follow in future years.

“The teachers, staff and students at Alesco Senior College - Charlestown Campus have built a strong and positive school community and these new facilities will further enhance our local educational opportunities,” Minister Conroy said.

“Our Government strongly believes in providing the best possible resources so that local students can realise their potential and develop the skills they need to go on to further study or to find a job.”
