Nelson Bay beaches remain closed

Update Tuesday 12th January: Beaches from Nelson Bay marina to Fly Point will remain closed Tuesday 12 January after a sewage leak.
Port Stephens Council is currently waiting on water quality test results to determine when it’s safe to reopen the beaches. The community is advised to avoid swimming in the area.
During excavation works on Monday 11 January at Teramby Road, Nelson Bay a sewage main was damaged and began leaking into the harbour.
The leak is now contained within the harbour and Hunter Water have repaired the sewage main. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), NSW Ministry of Health, SafeWork NSW and Fire & Rescue NSW have been notified.
The beaches from Nelson Bay marina to Fly Point, including the marina and SPLASH Waterpark are closed for swimming.
