NAIDOC Week grants on offer

Grants of up to $750 are on offer for projects and events held in Lake Macquarie as part of NAIDOC Week 2021 celebrations.
“These grants aim to assist hands-on activities that increase awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s achievements, culture and important role in our community,” he said.
This year’s NAIDOC Week will be held 4-11 July, with a theme of Heal Country, calling for all Australians to work together to seek greater protection for our lands, waters, sacred sites and cultural heritage.
Mr Bryant said successful applicants would need to demonstrate how their planned project or event would be COVID-safe.
“Funded activities need to take place within the Lake Macquarie local government area and engage the local Indigenous community throughout all stages,” he said.
“We’ll be giving priority to any applications that can highlight partnerships and collaboration with other organisations, and those that demonstrate originality in their practical cultural component.”
Council’s Aboriginal Grants Committee will assess each application based on funding criteria, allocating funds based on merit.
