SUNDAY 5 NOVEMBER

Audiences are in for a treat when the Lake Macquarie Philharmonic Orchestra presents Great Classics – a program of fine music with conductor Dr. Steven Stanke. The performance will include three pieces: Impresario Overture by Mozart, Pelléas et Mélisande by Sibelius, and Symphony No 3 Eroica by Beethoven. Mozart’s Overtures are masterpieces of entertainment, and The Impresario is one of his best. Pelléas et Mélisande by Sibelius is a suite from incidental music for the play by Belgian Maurice Maeterlink. Dr. Stanke will showcase a Suite of 8 movements through a narrative of tragedy and loss in a medieval setting. Beethoven’s Third Symphony was originally dedicated to Napoleon, but after the Frenchman declared himself Emperor, Beethoven tore up the dedication and rededicated the work to his patron, Prince Franz Joseph. It depicts the entirety of life, including triumphs, tragedies, heroic deeds, and the human condition. There are four movements - Allegro, Funeral March, Scherzo, and Allegro Molto. Be sure to secure your tickets now, as seating is limited. For more information or to book tickets, visit www.lakemacquariemusicsociety.org.au.
