Iconic Maitland Locations Lighting Up This Summer

intouch Magazine

Iconic Central Maitland locations are being transformed at night with light projections and activations later this month with Summer Lights and Neon Nights, part of the Make it Maitland this Summer program.

The Summer Lights project is running from sunset to 11.00pm each night from Friday 22 January to Tuesday 26 January and will see The Maitland Post Office, The Riverlink and 437 High Street (previously known as Taylors of Maitland) transformed with vibrant light projections.

Neon Nights at The Levee returns again this year at the junction of Elgin and High Street, and down the lane to the River Side Carpark on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 January from 7.00pm to 10.00pm with glow in the dark mini-golf, a pop up DJ and old school video games at the 'projection arcade'.

Council has also successfully secured additional funding under NSW Government's The Festival of Place - Summer Fund that will expand the footprint of Neon Nights to include projections at Maitland Library on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 January and live performance projections and music at MRAG on Friday 22 January, from 7.00pm to 10.00pm.

Council's Senior Place Activation Officer Portia Wendt says, 'this is a great chance to have a night out in Central Maitland, see something different and enjoy a meal and a few drinks at some of the great nightspots around the city precinct.'

A comprehensive COVID-19 Safety Plan will be in place for all Council run events and activities.

Council will continue to monitor and adhere to the advice from the Federal and State Governments, including any variation or modification of the public health orders.

The Summer Lights project is a Maitland City Council Place Activation initiative.
