Funding Boost For Young People's Theatre Newcastle

Young People’s Theatre Newcastle Inc (YPT) will benefit from a cash boost of $200,000 under the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants Program’s November 2024 round.
Based in Hamilton, YPT has been Newcastle’s premier theatrical institution for youth aged 8-18 for over 75 years, with 400 students attending weekly classes at the theatre.
"YPT has been a beloved creative hub for over seven decades and is an important part of the social and cultural fabric here in Newcastle" says Tim Crakanthorp MP, State Member for Newcastle.
“This funding will contribute towards the development of a modern, fit for purpose theatre dedicated to increasing social connections and support for young people in Newcastle.
“I congratulate YPT and look forward to the amazing projects they will deliver.”
The $200,000 in grant funding will enable the not-for-profit organisation to redevelop their rehearsal, theatrical, and public spaces.
The Infrastructure Grants Program is made possible by ClubGrants Category 3. The grants help deliver a wide range of grass-roots initiatives across four categories: sport and recreation, disaster readiness, community infrastructure, and arts and culture.
A total of 37 projects will receive support in this second round of the program for the 2024/25 financial year, after $6.44 million was delivered to fund 46 projects in July.
Since 2013, more than 880 community projects have been awarded $152 million under the funding program.
