Entries Now Open for the Newcastle Short Story Award
Hunter Writers’ Centre is pleased to announce that entries are now open for the 2023 Newcastle Short Story Award.
Established in 2012 the Newcastle Short Story Award has gained recognition as one of Australia’s premier short story competitions, attracting high-calibre writers and esteemed judges each year. The Newcastle Short Story Award offers a first prize of $3,000, the opportunity for publication in the highly regarded anthology, as well as several Local Awards available only available to Hunter region authors.
The Newcastle Short Story is supported by principal sponsor, University of Newcastle, and local small businesses, such as Foghorn Brewery, Macquariedale Organic Wines, Tulloch Wines and Pepper Tree Wines. In 2023, the Newcastle Short Story Award is judged by esteemed author / editors Angela Meyers and Winnie Dunn. The shortlist will be announced in early December, with the winners of the competition revealed in January 2023.
The 2023 Newcastle Short Story Award closes at 11:59pm on Friday 20th October 2023. It accepts works of up to 2000 words by Australian residents and/or citizens aged 18 years and older.
