Australian Artists Come Together to Honour Our First Responders
Two weeks ago, ABC Music released, We See You. The album includes 10 of Australia's best songwriters, with original songs that highlight the awe-inspiring work of this country's 370,000 emergency service workers and the work done to support them by Fortem Australia.
After the project was featured on A Current Affair, the first print run of the physical album sold out overnight. An additional print run has been done to keep up with the public demand. A percentage of the CD sales of We See You will help fund the important work of Fortem Australia. They are the leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the well-being of first responders, You can also leave a message to thank our emergency service staff for all that they do. The Wiggles feature on the album with their new song Volunteer Firefighter. 33 years into their career, they remain Australia's biggest entertainment export. As the streaming numbers get wrapped up for the year, The Wiggles have come out on top as the most streamed artists of all genres in Australia. A testament to quality songwriting and a commitment to early childhood education and entertainment. The album is better for having their talent and their ability to bring the subject matter to a whole new audience.
The project has been a labour of love for Australian musician, filmmaker, and author, Paul Field AM. He is best known as one of the founding members of the Sydney pub rock band, The Cockroaches, The Field Brothers, and for 24 years the Managing Director for the children's music group, and Australia’s biggest entertainment export, The Wiggles. The experience of those on the front lines has always been a subject close to Paul’s heart. In 2017, he published Gimme Shelter, a collection of stories of courage and endurance from first responders and military personnel.
As an ambassador for Fortem, he understands the sacrifices they make to support Australian communities. Who amongst us isn’t moved by iconic images of firefighters, police, the S.E.S., paramedics calmly rendering lifesaving aid, or helicopters winching someone to safety?
“The album title, We See You, is to acknowledge all the people who do extraordinary jobs every day and the families who stand behind them. Music can uplift, inspire, and heal. I know this album will do all of these things”. Paul Field AM, Fortem Australia Ambassador
“Our first responders are there when we need them the most, and the fact that these absolute legends of Australian music have grouped together to not only recognise the work they do but to also support the work that Fortem Australia does in supporting our first responders is truly humbling. I commend Paul and each of the artists who have contributed to this remarkable album.” Mick Willing APM, CEO, Fortem Australia
The Wiggles were also kind enough to host some first responder families at their recent Newcastle show at Fortem's invitation and a great time was had by all involved.
We See You is out now.
