Annie the Musical: A Timeless Tale of Hope
Newcastle audiences will have the opportunity to experience the heartwarming story of Annie the Musical this August as Chookas Entertainment brings the beloved Broadway classic to the Civic Theatre Playhouse. Running from 28 August to 14 September, this production promises to captivate viewers of all ages with its timeless message of hope and resilience.
Set against the backdrop of the Great Depression, Annie follows the adventures of a spirited orphan determined to find her parents. The musical features unforgettable songs like Tomorrow, It's the Hard-Knock Life, and You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile, which have become part of the cultural zeitgeist since the show's 1977 Broadway debut.
Producer Jody Miller expressed excitement about bringing a fresh take to the production, which was last staged in Newcastle a decade ago.
“We're excited to share this classic production with audiences in Newcastle. We've been overwhelmed with positive responses and audiences wanting to know what fresh take this production will involve," said Jody.
“Whether they’re die-hard fans of the movie or can’t wait to relive this classic musical, we know there will be lots to love about this beloved family show.”
The cast, a testament to Newcastle's rich talent pool, features Emelyn Konz and Sage Brooks sharing the title role of Annie. Dj Jonz joins them as Oliver Warbucks, Bridget Glennie as Grace Farrell, and Nicolette Black as the infamous Miss Hannigan. The creative team includes director Danny Folpp, choreographer Maddie Watts, and musical director Mathew Gallimore.
