Looby documentary coming to Lake Mac

intouch Magazine

The life of Australian artist Keith Looby will be showcased at a free documentary screening at Rathmines Theatre on 14 November.

After a world premiere at the 2019 Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, LOOBY is touring Australia with up to 100 screenings to mark 100 years of the Archibald Prize.

The film captures the art, life and times of the Archibald’s most controversial winner. Keith’s addiction to speaking his mind has over the years left a string of failed relationships and masterworks neglected in storage.

Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said it is wonderful to see a spotlight shone on the story of Looby, who won the Archibald Price in 1984 with a portrait of Max Gillies.

“The documentary also features interviews with many esteemed arts personalities, including McLean Edwards, Julie Ewington, Max Gillies, Adam Hill (aka Blak Douglas), John McDonald, Humphrey McQueen, and Damien Minton".

Producers Sean Murphy and Merilyn Alt said audiences will delight in some of Australia's greatest paintings and be entertained - even outraged - by the shenanigans of the art world.

The film will conclude with a lively Q&A discussion for those in attendance, facilitated by Sean and Merilyn themselves. Places are limited so be sure to reserve your ticket online.

Details can be found at lakemac.com.au/looby.
