Upgrades to Martinsville facilities underway

A giant timber goanna, fire truck see-saw and rope climbing gym will be among the features of a new playground under construction at Martinsville in south-west Lake Macquarie.
The Lake Macquarie City Council overhaul of the Martinsville Road site includes the new playground, a new barbecue area and picnic tables, accessible amenities building and accessible parking spaces.
A dilapidated tennis clubhouse has been demolished to make way for the works.
Built and Natural Assets Director David Hughes said the work was due for completion by early June.
“Playgrounds might be off-limits at the moment, but works like these mean there will be even more choices across our City once they reopen,” Mr Hughes said.
“We manage over 480 playgrounds and parks in our City, and the construction of this new playground will be a valuable addition to the Martinsville community.” Mayor Kay Fraser said the area would also feature undercover seating and new paths.
“This is just one of many Council projects underway during COVID-19 helping keep our City moving,” Cr Fraser said.
Council will spend $2.5 million improving parks and playgrounds in 2019-2020 as part of its $98 million capital works program.
