Are you Eligible for Home Care

The Australian Government is encouraging seniors to remain independent and comfortable in their own homes for as long as they can. This is evidenced by new reforms that have been introduced to give seniors more choice when it comes to enlisting a provider to carry out their home care, and the services they decide are important to their quality of life.

How do you know if you are eligible for help?

You will need to undertake an assessment conducted by the government body MyAgedCare. Each government programme or package has broad eligibility criteria; these requirements might include a minimum age and a decreased ability to perform basic daily living tasks without help.

The team at Anglican Care understand that having an assessment might feel daunting, however, it is the government’s way of finding out how much help and the kind of care and services you require and are eligible for. Rest assured that during the assessment, your assessor will listen and consider your wishes and you aren’t expected to make decisions around your future care on the spot.

If you are found eligible for a Home Care package and know your deemed level of support, what next?

Each level of home care package provides a different subsidy amount. The subsidy contributes to the total cost of your services and care delivery. This may include, for example, basic support such as cooking, cleaning and gardening, allied health (for example, physiotherapy), transport to medical appointments or social outings, and for those with more extensive requirements – nursing care such as dementia specific services, monitoring blood pressure, medication and pain management.

The friendly staff at Anglican Care are there to help you navigate the aged care system. Once you have had your ACAT assessment and are waiting in the national queue for your package to be assigned, they are available to assist by calling 1800 733 553.
